Event Details

Before the Allies could land troops in western France, they began a campaign in the Mediterranean to threaten Southern Europe and to put more pressure on the German forces on other fronts. Referred to as the “soft under belly of Europe” by Churchill, the fighting on Sicily and in Italy proved to be some of the fiercest battles during WWII. This program will take a close look at the operations in the Mediterranean and explain what happened and why.
