Step back into the early days of jazz in Detroit and follow its musical path through key venues and players of each decade – from the ‘Roaring Twenties,’ through World War ll, the Golden Age of Detroit Jazz in the 1950’s, and the advent of Motown Records. Veteran WDET-FM Jazz broadcaster and 2018 Jazz Detroit Jazz Hero Jim Gallert will showcase the music that predated and inspired Motown, discuss (and play) rare Jazz recordings, and present previously unseen images of the Detroit Jazz scene.
