Event Details

Celebrate Pi Day with mini Pot Pies! As we cook a delicious meal to share with family and friends, we will talk about PI, the number and the food, and share a story or two. An adult must be present. 

Please visit the Youth Information Desk to pick up your supply kit. Kits contain the recipe, herbs, and other items are available while supplies last. 1 kit per family.

 

Recipe makes 10 mini-pies

Items included in supply kit:

  • Thyme
  • Bay Leaves
  • Mustard Powder
  • 5 inch Circle Template

Additional Ingredients & Supplies you will need

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 chopped carrots
  • 1/2 cup of your choice of peas, corn, mushrooms, leeks or green beans
  • 2-3 cloves garlic
  • 2 TBSP butter
  • 2 TBSP flour, plus extra for rolling out crust 
  • 1 cup of cooked shredded chicken or substitute protein alternative or additional vegetables
  • 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup milk or milk alternative
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 package of store-bought refrigerated pie crust (you will need both crusts)
  • Vegetable shortening (do not use cooking spray)
  • standard size 12-cup muffin pan
  • pot with lid
  • Whisk
  • Spoon for stirring & a ladle
  • rolling pin
  • 5 inch diameter bowl, cup, or cutter for cutting dough. 
  • cutting board and knife (chopping of ingredients should be done prior to the program)
