Event Details

Join TPL in welcoming author and former Detroit Free Press journalist John Gallagher.

Reflecting on his life's work as a reporter, including 32 years with the Detroit Free Press, veteran journalist John Gallagher merges memoir with an insider's account of the challenges facing Detroit and other Rust Belt cities, as well as the tensions inside local newsrooms throughout the country - and the path forward.

Gallagher's career intersected many notable events, inclusive of the troubled Kilpatrick administration, newspaper strikes, the federal bailout of automotive companies, the bankruptcy of Detroit, and the exceptional Grand Bargain struck to save the city – all while noting the increasingly important roles nonprofits and private companies play in city politics and newsrooms, for better and for worse.

Priority registration will be given to Troy Public Library card holders. If you do not have a TPL-issued library card, you may register without a card to be put on the Pending Waitlist. If there is space available one week before the program you will be moved to the main registration list and notified. Click here to apply for a TPL card.
