On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally received the news that they were free – more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Join author, journalist, and Detroit historian Ken Coleman for the history behind the “Juneteenth” holiday, which commemorates this date in our nation’s history.
