Event Details

Examine the history and the present of the Straits of Mackinac. Visited by millions, Mackinac is a special place for many Michiganders. Hear the incredible history from the indigenous peoples to fur trade and logging to 19th century battles to fudge production. What is it like to wear the wool uniforms and fire muskets for a living? What was it like to live on the island in the winter and work security for the Grand Hotel? Find out the answers to these questions and more with historian Andrew Kercher.

Priority registration will be given to Troy Public Library card holders. If you do not have a TPL-issued library card, you may register without a card to be put on the Pending Waitlist. If there is space available one week before the program you will be moved to the main registration list and notified.
